Grand Theft Auto 6 Details Emerge Before Netflix Reveal
Grand Theft Auto 6's major reveal is set to stream on Netflix on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, later appearing on Rockstar's YouTube channel. Take-Two Interactive announced "unprecedented and astronomical" pre-orders since June 25, 2026, though specific numbers remain undisclosed. Despite the strong demand, the company held its fiscal 2027 net bookings outlook at $8.0 to $8.2 billion, acknowledging potential cancellations. This Netflix event is merely an initial marketing push for the highly anticipated title, which will launch digitally on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Standard Edition priced at $79.99. Take-Two's Q1 FY2027 revenue surpassed guidance, reaching $1.39 billion.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Grand Theft Auto 6's major reveal is going to be streamed on Netflix on August 27. The power move is impressive and I'll be watching with much of the rest of the world when it drops. On Friday, details about the highly anticipated Netflix stream and more emerged. Let's talk video games.
Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg the August 27 premiere is "one of the hors d'oeuvres" rather than the end of the campaign, so more marketing lands before November 19. He declined to explain the Netflix choice beyond saying viewers will understand once they watch it.
On the same day's earnings call, Zelnick called pre-orders "unprecedented and astonishing and astronomical" but gave no number, and Take-Two left its fiscal 2027 outlook unchanged because pre-orders can still be cancelled.
My best guess for the structure of the stream is some sort of hybrid between real-world imagery, cutscenes and actual gameplay. I imagine the point will be to blur the lines between what's real and what's in the game, at least from a visual standpoint.
While the stream will live on Rockstar and GTA 6's YouTube channel after it debuts on Netflix, I also expect to see some sort of blog to close any gaps left by the stream. After that, I will be surprised if we see more than one more huge informational drop before launch.
Per Take-Two Interactive's Q1 fiscal 2027 results, reported August 7.
