Grantham man jailed for partner's murder
A Lincolnshire man has been jailed for life after pleading guilty to murdering his partner.
Thirty nine-year-old Shaun Watt killed Dolly Gregory, 32, at their home in Welland Court, Grantham, on 1 January this year.
Lincoln Crown Court heard Watt attacked Miss Gregory after discovering she was planning to leave him. Post-mortem tests showed she died of head injuries.
He was told he must serve at least 17-and-a-half years in jail.
After the attack, Watt twice tried to hang himself with a washing line.
Speaking after the hearing in a joint statement, Miss Gregory's mother and father Mandy and Jim Smith said: "We are pleased in the sense he will have to serve at least 17-and-a-half years before he is even considered for parole.
"He deserves that, but we now have a life sentence, we'll never get Dolly back"
