GTA 6 pre-orders are out in the wild, and we’re yet to see a single second of gameplay. While we can piece together how Rockstar’s latest crime-fuelled adventure will play from the first two trailers, it’s pretty wild that we’re able to put money down on a game that we haven’t properly seen in action yet.

Given how stunning the in-engine visuals of GTA 6 look from the trailers, the question on every gamer’s lips is this – just how well will it run on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S? We don’t have official word from Rockstar just yet, but a Polish journalist claims the game will have both a performance mode and a fidelity mode on the two major consoles.

That’s according to Polish journalist Borys Niespielak, who discussed a report he’d heard from an anonymous source at Rockstar Games. Niespielak has previously accurately predicted that Ciri would be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, as well as the existence of The Witcher 3 DLC ‘Songs of the Past – this is his first foray into the world of Rockstar and GTA leaks, though.

Speaking on a podcast, Niespielak says: “I’ve received new information from a source close to Rockstar. I emphasise that this is a single source, but a very reliable one.

According to the information I’ve received, there will be two graphical modes, 30 and 60 fps, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Where things get complicated is on the Xbox Series S, with Niespielak claiming that Rockstar is targeting a 1080p, 30fps presentation on the lower-powered platform. It doesn’t sound like there will be a 60fps option on that device at all.

Quality and performance modes have become a staple feature of console games over the last several years. Quality usually favours resolution and higher graphical settings while performance mode drops the settings down to improve the smoothness of the frame rate.

While we’ll need to take the source’s information with a pinch of salt, it’s a promising sign for GTA 6 – especially for those who might have been holding out on a PC port before they could experience the new version of Vice City at silky-smooth framerates.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Rockstar does opt for a 60fps mode on modern consoles, though. With GTA 6 seemingly going down a more cinematic route, it could well be that the studio locks everyone into 30fps, regardless of what platform they’re playing on.

We saw this with Red Dead Redemption 2, which still doesn’t have a way to run at 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X to this day. The only way to play that game at a frame rate higher than 30fps is on PC – and there’s currently no word on when, or even if, GTA 6 will get a PC port.

GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. It won’t have a disc in the box, and it’s available to pre-order right now.
