A Guernsey company plans to start operating a kerbside recycling service in the island.

Local company Wecycle plans to launch the new initiative this month, for a monthly charge of £12 per household.

The States of Guernsey has ruled out funding kerbside pick-ups on numerous occasions in the past.

It is currently drawing up a new waste strategy after the planned waste-to-energy plant and accompanying strategy was abandoned earlier this year.

The service will pick up items that islanders can already recycle at bring banks around the island, which includes paper, some plastics, tins, glass and Tetrapak cartons.

Paul Torode and Damon Blake from Wecycle said they had been encouraged by the enthusiastic response they have had from the public so far.
