A Guernsey couple taking part in the Bubblegum Bangers Extreme charity rally across Europe had to be rescued from a mountain pass in Italy.

The couple were rescued unhurt after their car slid into a barrier on the narrow Stelvio Pass.

Rally organiser Brin Harrison said the teams were worried but knew what they had put themselves forward for.

"It's an extreme rally, about driving extreme roads...that's what people saw when they signed up," he said.

The cars were diverted on to the narrow pass, the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps and the second highest in the Alps at 2757m (9045ft), because a tunnel on their route was closed.

The rally entails 60 cars travelling through 10 European countries in a week.

The diversion saw many cars travelling slowly through the pass in convoy and not reaching their campsite until the early hours of the morning.
