NEW DELHI: Congress MP Deepender Hooda on Tuesday urged the Centre to consider Haryana as the host or co-host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, arguing that the state deserves the opportunity in view of its athletes' consistent contribution to India's medal tally.Welcoming India's chance to host the Games, Hooda said Haryana has accounted for more than half of India's medals at major international sporting events over the past 15-20 years and should therefore be the primary beneficiary of investments in sports infrastructure."We are happy that India is getting a chance to host the Commonwealth Games.

Now I urge the government to choose Haryana as the state where those games are to be hosted. Over the last 15-20 years, Haryana is the state which has brought home over 50 per cent of India's medals in major competitions. If lakhs of crores are going to be spent on developing sports infrastructure in a particular part of our country, it should be Haryana because Haryana's players have proven it," Hooda told news agency ANI.He also took a swipe at the BJP-led Centre, alleging that major projects were being concentrated in Gujarat.
