Indian-origin man arrested for sexually assaulting woman in Canada's Surrey
A 40-year-old Indian-origin man has been charged with two counts following the alleged sexual assault of a young woman at a park in Surrey, Canada, police said, as cited by PTI.The accused, Jagendar Kurana, was arrested on August 12, according to a police statement issued on Monday.Surrey Police Service said officers responded to a report of sexual assault at Bear Creek Park on August 9.
The woman told police that an adult man had groped her before fleeing the scene.Police launched an investigation and issued a public appeal last week, releasing photographs of the suspect and seeking information. A man matching the description was subsequently identified.The British Columbia Prosecution Service approved two charges against Kurana under the Criminal Code, one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.Kurana was remanded in custody and was awaiting a bail hearing ahead of his next scheduled court appearance on August 17, police said.The investigation into the alleged assault is continuing, police added.Catch the latest World News and Live updates.
