Inside BBC star Naga Munchetty
Naga Munchetty is embarking on a new chapter after announcing her departure from BBC Breakfast. Confirming the news in July, the journalist revealed that she'll be heading over to Radio 5 Live and taking over the morning slot in January 2027. A huge change for Naga, the 51-year-old has been keeping a low profile in recent weeks, while continuing to front Breakfast.
Away from the cameras, Naga, who rarely speaks about her personal life, resides in a £1.8million property in Hertfordshire with her husband of 22 years, James Haggar.
Currently the Head of Studios at News UK, James has over 25 years' experience in the television industry. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has held senior roles at Sky, ITV, GB News, and CNBC over the years.
While it's unknown when exactly Naga and James met, they had their first date at a pool hall, owing to their shared love of snooker.
After dating for a few years, the pair eventually tied the knot in 2004. Reflecting on their nuptials on her Radio 5 Live show, Naga said that she "did fall over" on the big day.
"I don't know if I styled it out, but I did fall over in a big, puffy wedding dress during my first dance to 'You're Just Too Good To Be True,'" she recalled.
Speaking with The Guardian in 2016, Naga revealed the best piece of her and her husband ever received.
"When James and I got married almost 12 years ago, one of his aunts said to us: the best bit of advice I can give you is to simply be kind to one another. She was right." Naga added that their shared love of golfing had also kept them connected.
"James and I are both golfers, and I think it's great for our relationship. It gives us a few hours together when we're walking and talking and catching up; it really makes a difference," she said. "Golf takes you on a journey together, and it means you stay in touch with one another."
In the years since her wedding, Naga has spoken honestly about her and husband James's decision not to have children. Noting that they already "liked the life" they had built together, Naga told The Times that she had faced backlash as a result. "People said, 'You're denying your mum the opportunity to have a grandchild. That's wicked.' My mum just wants me to be happy. [Not having children] was a joint decision between my husband and me."
