Jean McConville's son admits burglary charges

A Dunmurry man has pleaded guilty to involvement in an aggravated burglary in 2001 in which a pensioner died.

Paul McConville, 43, admitted aiding and abetting the burglary of a house and aiding the false imprisonment of George and Thomasina Foster.

Mr Foster, who was 82 and an angina sufferer, died from heart failure after escaping from his Lisburn house.

McConvillle is the son of Jean McConville, who was abducted and murdered by the IRA in 1972.

He had been charged with Mr Foster's manslaughter but that was "left on the books" after he changed his pleas on the morning the trial was due to begin.

The burglary charges relate to an incident in January 2001, when two men burst into the Fosters' house in Manor Drive and held the couple prisoner in an upstairs bedroom while they ransacked the house in search of money.

Mr Foster managed to escape and ran to a neighbours house in his dressing gown and slippers to summon help where he collapsed and died.
