Extra funding has been proposed to help boost tourism in Jersey.

If the funding, from the economic stimulus fund, is approved by the States, it will be used for an advertising campaign throughout the summer months.

The fund is designed to help get the economy moving in difficult times.

Jersey Tourism said April had been a poor month because of the volcanic ash which disrupted numerous flights.

The extra £500,000 will be used straight away on advertising in national newspapers, magazines, radio and television.

Greater weight has been added to the importance of leisure visitors because of the continuing decline in business visitor numbers, Jersey Tourism said.

Earlier this year the island's tourist industry said it intended to shift its focus from families to attract couples aged over 50.
