‘Keeps you guessing until the end’: The tense British legal drama to watch before it leaves Netflix
It's safe to say that summer 2026 has been a memorable one — between the chaos of Love Island post-Casa Amor, the gripping World Cup, and the scorching heatwaves. Many of us have reached boiling point on more than one occasion, which is why we're low-key excited about the autumn months to come.
With the likes of Practical Magic 2 coming out in September, and the scent of PSLs in the air, the itch to get the cosy season started is getting stronger. And what says cosy more than binging a twisty TV series in one sitting?
If that sounds like a weekend plan you can get on board with, we've just found the ideal TV show on Netflix. But you need to hurry, as the six-parter will be leaving Netflix very soon. Here's everything you need to know about The Killing Kind...
The Killing Kind is a six-part mini-series about the past and present relationship between defence barrister, Ingrid Lewis, and her former client, John Webster. The pair met when she represented him in court — he was accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend. As the case developed, however, Ingrid found herself drawn to her client and they "embarked on an illicit affair," according to the synopsis from Eleventh Hour Films, who produced the TV series, which is based on the novel of the same name by Jane Casey.
Things — unsurprisingly — went sour from there. "When she wanted to end it, he couldn’t let her go and consequently Ingrid’s world imploded."
The synopsis goes on: "In the present, we join Ingrid as she’s finally rebuilding her life. Then tragedy strikes as Ingrid’s mentor and friend Belinda dies. Ingrid suspects she was the intended target, but the police aren’t convinced. Alone and in free-fall, Ingrid has no idea who she can turn to."
Enter: Webster. "[He] reappears in Ingrid’s life making a sensational claim – that someone is out to kill Ingrid and only he can protect her," the synopsis concludes. "But can Ingrid trust Webster? As the body count rises, Ingrid races to reveal the killer and save herself."
While there aren't any obvious big-name stars in The Killing Kind, its cast is made up of several famous faces who put on a truly gripping performance. Here's who makes up the cast of The Killing Kind:
TV critics have had plenty of positive things to say about The Killing Kind — which is just another excuse to cancel your weekend plans and stay at home to watch it. "The writers neatly arrange the twists and reveals to ensure each episode has a few surprises in store," said Rolling Stone in its review. "A pretty flawless crime thriller," agreed The Evening Standard.
As for what viewers at home think? "Lots of twists and turns [that] drew you in until the end," one person wrote on Rotten Tomatoes. "Keeps you guessing till the end, well worth a watch," added another.
