Knicks staring down crunch in free agency after assembling strong baseline, Landry Shamet reunion

The Knicks locked up Landry Shamet, which, barring James Dolan changing his mind on the second apron, reiterated what we knew was happening: Mitchell Robinson is gone.

On the eve of free agency Monday, the Knicks and Shamet agreed to a four-year, $24 million pact — a big move for Leon Rose to re-up with one of his top two-way performers.

The Knicks fulfilled a goal and Shamet, who might’ve received more on the open market, has more security after playing the last two seasons on one-year minimum contracts.

The circumstances, while expected, leave the Knicks in need of a backup center.
