The Chief Constable of Lancashire Police has been appointed CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Steve Finnigan said he was delighted to be honoured for his service to the police after 34 years in service.

"It is testament to the advice, support and commitment I have received from many colleagues," he said.

One of the longest-serving police volunteers in the country, Margaret Mills, 89, from Preston has also been appointed MBE for her work.

Mr Finnegan said he wanted to congratulate her and his colleagues, Lancashire police constables Janet Roe and Kathleen Bromilow, who have been appointed MBE for services to policing.

He also praised Saima Afzal, appointed MBE for services to the police and to community relations in Lancashire.

"I would like to send my warm congratulations to my colleagues who have also been honoured," he said.

"I am extremely proud of their achievements and I am sure their families and friends are too."

Coroner Andre Rebello, from Blackburn, has been appointed OBE for services to the administration of justice.

A married couple, foster carers Lorraine and Ralph Brett, also became OBE for their services to children.
