Latest Texas injury could be a disaster for Arch Manning

The Texas Longhorns are one of a handful of teams favored to compete for a national championship this season, as evidenced by them occupying the No. 5 spot in The Associated Press preseason Top 25 rankings.

Texas is loaded with plenty of future NFL talent — quarterback Arch Manning, wide receivers Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo, and edge-rusher Colin Simmons, among others — but the team was dealt an injury scare on Monday night when one of its best players left practice with a knee injury.

“Sources: Texas star left tackle Trevor Goosby had an MRI on his left knee this morning, and he’s been diagnosed with a bone bruise. His timetable for return will come together in near future,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel said.

“Goosby got an MRI on Tuesday morning after leaving practice with a knee injury on Monday night. Goosby is ESPN analyst @Jordan_Reid top tackle prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft,” Thamel added in a follow-up post.

Goosby is considered by most scouts and analysts as the top offensive tackle prospect in the 2027 NFL draft, and he’s projected to be a top-15 pick.

The first-team All-SEC lineman allowed just 16 pressures, 10 hurries, three QB hits, and three sacks while playing 847 snaps at left tackle, according to Pro Football Focus.

If Goosby misses any period of time — Texas opens the regular season against Texas State at home on Sept. 5 — the Longhorns will likely have to rely on a tandem of inexperienced players to protect Manning’s blind side.

Junior Jaydon Chatman and freshman Jordan Coleman have played a combined 53 snaps at left tackle. Junior Brandon Baker is UT’s starting right tackle, but he could move to the left side while Goosby is out. He’s played only 20 snaps at LT.
