LeBron James is already the most followed NBA superstar on social media with more than 231 million followers. Now the Philadelphia 76ers’ newest superstar is coming for the golf influencers, too.
Less than three days after launching his new YouTube golf channel, James has already blown past 500,000 subscribers with just one 96-minute long video.
His debut, “The 2016 Cavs 10-year Reunion Golf Scramble” filmed on a course in Scotland has already generated more than 2 million views since Saturday, dropping James into the booming world of YouTube golf content creators.
In the video, James reunites with his 2016 NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers teammates Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson and Channing Frye for a 3-on-3 golf scramble in Scotland.
Their old championship chemistry is still on display, only now the hardwood has been replaced by rolling fairways, 400-yard par fours and plenty of trash talk.
James first announced his new golf channel on Saturday on X, where the post has drawn more than 3.2 million likes.
You all loved the 2016 reunion trip so much I thought I'd give ya'll a little more. 🫡🤣 Welcome to my YouTube channel! My life on and around the course. Let’s go!!! 👑⛳️🏌🏾https://t.co/JKA9egPBEi
James has already dominated the sport of basketball, racking up championships and records during his 23 seasons on the court.
But now he’s looking to become a part of the booming YouTube golf sports-media ecosystem, led by personalities such as Rick Shiels, who has more than 3 million subscribers, and PGA tour champion Bryson DeChambeau, who has roughly 2.8 million. In just a few days, James is already closing ground on them at a ridiculous pace, and it won’t be long until he passes them.
James is surprisingly new to golf, only taking up the sport last summer after his Lakers teammate Austin Reaves had been trying to get him into the sport for years. But James never does anything halfway. His obsession has escalated quickly, even telling The California Post in April that his ideal group would be himself and his two sons, Bronny and Bryce.
James promises his channel will feature trips to some of the world’s greatest golf courses, mixed with local food, wine and plenty of laughs along the way.
Michael Jordan turned his obsession with golf into a centerpiece of his post-NBA career.
LeBron might be turning his into a new media empire before he’s even done playing.
