LG has unveiled the new StanbyME 2 Max, a significant upgrade to its portable screen lineup. This model boasts a larger 32-inch 4K UHD display, moving beyond the previous 27-inch QHD limitation. It features premium Dolby Vision HDR and immersive Dolby Atmos audio, enhanced by LG's AI Sound Pro. Powering its visuals is the Alpha 8 AI Processor, which improves picture quality and upscales content to 4K. Designed for versatility, the StanbyME 2 Max offers a 4.5-hour battery for mains-free use, rotates for vertical viewing, and runs webOS for streaming. It also introduces Gallery+ for digital art display. Connectivity includes HDMI, USB, and a touchscreen interface. Priced at $1,299.99 in the US, it's rolling out globally.

While there’s always been much to like about LG’s StanbyME portable screens, with their attractive lifestyle designs and their ability to easily switch between desktop or wheeled stand mounting options, the models available up to now have topped out at 27-inch screen sizes and QHD resolutions Those limitations have now been addressed, though, with the arrival of the new StandbyME 2 Max: A 32-inch take on the unique StanbyME design that also ups the native screen resolution to 4K UHD (3840x2160 pixels).

The LG StanbyME 2 Max also supports not just high dynamic range video but the premium Dolby Vision format of HDR, which provides extra scene by scene HDR image information to help compatible displays deliver more accurate and punchy HDR pictures. The StanbyME 2 Max’s Dolby collaboration also extends to the inclusion of Dolby Atmos audio, for a more immersive three-dimensional sound system. An audio feature that’s backed up by LG’s AI Sound Pro feature, where any incoming sound, even basic stereo, can be upmixed into a virtual 11.1.2 surround sound effect.

The StanbyME 2 Max’s pictures aren’t just bolstered by their new size and resolution, either. The Alpha 8 AI Processor used in some of LG’s OLED and LCD TVs is also present in this portable display, complete with such features as AI Picture Pro for adding depth and detail to the image to make it look more lifelike, and enhanced upscaling of sub-4K content to the screen’s native 4K resolution.

The StanbyME 2’s practical features don’t begin and end with its ability to be wheeled around from room to room on a pole-style stand or sat on a tabletop using an included one-click stand. It also, for instance, carries a built-in battery capable of delivering up to 4.5 hours of mains-free use – opening up the possibility of the display being easily used outdoors as well as indoors. Provided the weather’s up to it.

The screen can also be rotated through 90 degrees to support vertical as well as horizontal viewing (perfect for today’s TikTok generation), while LG’s built in webOS operating system provides a simple and attractive interface for accessing all of the world’s most popular streaming apps.

Also present are LG’s Channels and Gallery+ features. The former of these provides a curated collection of hundreds of themed streamed TV channels, while the latter lets you choose from a library of more than 5,000 digitised artworks from a wide array of international galleries and artists to use as screensavers, effectively turning the StanbyME 2 Max into a painting or framed photograph when you’re not using it in earnest. Despite Gallery+ being such a natural fit for the StanbyME concept, the 2 Max is actually the first StanbyME product to carry the feature.

The StanbyME 2 Max’s connections include both HDMI and USB options, and finally it features a touch-screen control system, so you can choose options simply by tapping on them with your finger. Or you can use apps such as Let’s Draw to create your own finger-drawn masterpieces.

LG has announced that it will be rolling the StanbyME 2 Max out globally in phases, with exact launch timing varying by region. It’s available to pre-order on LG’s US and Canadian websites already, though, priced at $1,299.99 and $1,999.99 respectively.
