Licence review pledge after four shot in Birmingham

Councillors are to carry out a full review of the licence granted to a venue in Birmingham where four people were shot at an urban music event.

Three men and a woman were injured early on Sunday at Space 2 - part of the Custard Factory site in Digbeth, Birmingham.

Councillors agreed not to revoke a licence for Space 2 but there will be a full review on 12 July.

The organisers of the event have apologised and pledged a full refund.

Simon Jones, managing director of the organising company, Factory Events, which is separate from the Custard Factory, said their "absolute priority remains the safety and security of the public, staff and others who use the Custard Factory".

He added: "Anybody that did go to the event, if they can get back in contact with us, I'd like to offer a full refund and offer our apologies."

Three men suffered gunshot wounds to their legs and a woman was shot in the foot.

Mr Jones has denied claims there was inadequate security at the event.

He said: "At a meeting with the Licensing Committee earlier today, we agreed their request to provide a certificate to West Midlands Police stating that CCTV in the premises is in working order."

Mr Jones added Factory Events has also agreed to introduce extra security measures, such as having additional searches at each event.
