Liverpool to host Mobo awards after Facebook campaign

Liverpool is to host the Music of Black Origin (Mobo) Awards this year, following a campaign by a Mobos fan to bring the event to the city.

Ben Osu, 17, set up a Facebook campaign to make Liverpool the host city.

Last year, the Mobos were held in Glasgow, marking the first time the awards had taken place outside London.

Mobos ambassador and singer, Leona Lewis, said Liverpool was "the perfect choice."

She was booed by fans at the Mobo Awards in 2008 after failing to turn up to pick up two prizes.

The nominations for 2010 will be announced in September and the ceremony takes place at the Liverpool Echo Arena on 20 October.

"We are all very excited about celebrating Mobo's 15th birthday in Liverpool and bringing the awards to this vibrant city," said Mobos founder, Kanya King.

Pop trio N-Dubz scooped two awards at last year's Mobos, winning best UK act and best album.

X-Factor runners-up JLS also picked up a pair of awards for best song and best newcomer.

Previous ceremonies have included performances from Jay Z, Destiny's Child, Rihanna and Tina Turner.
