Unlike some lottery jackpots, the Thunderball top prize of £500,000 is not divided between multiple winners. Any player who matches all five main numbers and the Thunderball receives the full £500,000 prize.

This means that if more than one ticket holder wins in the same draw, each winner is awarded the entire £500,000 jackpot rather than sharing the prize money.

Players can pick five main numbers from 1 to 39 and one Thunderball number from 1 to 14. Tickets cost £1 per line.

The National Lottery has recently introduced a major overhaul of its Lotto format with a new set of rules. Under the updated system, the Lotto draw, which takes place every Wednesday and Saturday at 8pm, is now split into two rounds.

Two separate sets of six main numbers and a bonus ball are drawn using different machines, meaning every ticket is automatically entered into both rounds of the draw.

The change gives players two chances to win in a single draw while still allowing them to play using the same numbers selection process as before.

Players do not need to change the way they play, as the rules for selecting numbers remain the same. To enter, participants simply choose six numbers from 1 to 59, and prizes can still be won by matching two or more main numbers in a single round.

The updated format does not affect how players pick their numbers, allowing them to continue playing as usual while remaining eligible for a range of prizes.

The Lotto draw will take place at 8pm followed by Thunderball at 8.15pm.
