Major banking app goes down as thousands of customers report issues
The Monzo banking app went down earlier, with thousands of customers reprting issues. Data from Downdetector showed nearly 3,000 reports regarding issues at 12.51pm.
Monzo customers took to social media to vent their frustration. One wrote: "@monzo are there issues with transfers today? Sent from one Monzo to another but not showing on the recipients account." Another said: "@monzo is the app down? Having issues transferring money.
A Monzo spokesperson told The Express: "We’re currently experiencing a technical issue and are working to resolve this as soon as possible. In the meantime we've moved into our back up system Monzo Stand-in and customers can still do most things on their Monzo app including sending bank transfers and making card payments and ATM withdrawals."
Issues affecting the Monzo banking app have now been resolved after customers reported outages that left the app unavailable for several hours on Wednesday.
The "technical issue" has now been resolved.

A Monzo spokesperson said: "For a short period today, we activated Monzo Stand-in, our fully independent backup bank while we investigated an issue affecting customers.
"This technical issue has been resolved, and all of our services are now back up and running.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank customers for their patience."
According to Downdetector, over 1,500 people are reporting the issue using Monzo.

With the technical issue going on for over three hours now, customers are demanding "compensation" from Monzo.
One person wrote on X: "Hey Monzo! I'm trying to complete on a property purchase!
"I've tried transferring, but can't seem to! Can you advise when you will be running? Also will you compensate for this terrible issue?
"Please let me know asap, as I'm looking at changing my bank, as this is unacceptable."
Frustrated users have been voicing their concerns on social media.
One of the customers wrote on X: "Not patience we have no choice. Do we have estimated time it will be back. I can’t access investments or savings. And my transfers are not working."

Monzo has said it is "currently experiencing a technical issue" and are "working to resolve this as soon as possible".

They added "card payments, transfers, Pots, and cash withdrawals are all working as usual".
Another Monzo customer said the outage had left her 16-year-old daughter stranded on her first day at a new job as she was unable to send her funds.

An X user says Monzo's "issues seem to growing at the moment" as the app "is almost completely down".
A concerned user has taken to X to ask Monzo where their money has disappeared to.
The X user said: "Where's my money disappeared to? This is concerning. Sort it Monzo or I move bank."
Monzo said it has activated its independent backup bank, Monzo Stand-in, after identifying issues affecting customers.
The bank said customers can continue making card payments, withdrawing cash, freezing cards, and sending and receiving bank transfers. It added that a fix is now being rolled out as it works to restore full service.
Santander customers are also reporting problems this afternoon, according to Downdetector.
Down Detector showed 151 reports at 1.20pm, compared with a usual baseline of one.
A mum says her son has been left without funds for lunch due to the Monzo being down.

Monzo has told customers it is “investigating a technical issue” as problems persist with the banking app.
A message shown to users says card payments should still work, although balances and transactions may take longer to update and some app features may be unavailable.
Downdetector has now recorded 3,195 reports as of 1.05pm.
Monzo said they are "working hard on a fix to get things running ASAP" and apologised for the hassle.
