Sean Rodgers, 20, of Greenthorpe Road, Armley, was found on the bridge, close to the Stanningley bypass, on Monday morning.
Wayne Wardle, 19, of Wellstone Garth, Leeds, appeared at the city's magistrates' court on Wednesday charged with murder.
He was remanded in custody to appear later at Leeds Crown Court.
Mr Rodgers, who was described by relatives as a "wonderful dad", leaves a three-year-old daughter.
A post-mortem examination showed he died of stab wounds.
