A man has been jailed after he killed a goose by pulling its head off in a Coventry park.

Barry Sinfield, of Rathbone Court in the city, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal at Coventry Magistrates' Court.

It follows an incident in Swanswell Park in February, West Midlands Police said.

The 36-year-old was sentenced to 25 weeks in prison and banned from owning or keeping animals for 10 years.

Officers arrested him and the RSPCA took on the case.

Pc Barney Barnes said: "The collaboration between the RSPCA and the police has helped bring justice to what has been a horrendous and cruel act of mindless violence on an innocent bird."
