A 46-year-old man has been arrested after a fatal crash on the M1 in Leicestershire.
A lorry and a car collided on the southbound carriageway between junctions 22 and 21 at about 1700 BST on Monday.
The driver of the car, Michael Matthews, 72, from Hinckley, Leicestershire, died at the scene.
His passenger was airlifted to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre and is in a serious but stable condition.
Part of the M1 southbound had to be closed on Monday while investigations were carried out and diversions put in place.
Sgt Ivan Stafford said: "We are trying to piece together exactly what happened.
