Mr Lockwood's sister said he was "caring and considerate"

A 29-year-old man has been charged by police with the murder of a man who was found injured in a street in Bentley.

John Lockwood, 45, was found with head and internal injuries in the village's Lauder Road on Monday at 0700 BST, police said.

He was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary where he later died.

Dale Lockin of Wellington Grove, Bentley, has been charged with murder. He appeared at Doncaster Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday 11 June.

South Yorkshire Police said a 30-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender had been released on bail, pending further inquires.

Mr Lockwood had been making his way home from the Limbreck Court area when he was attacked.

In a statement released by police on behalf of his relatives, his sister Sandra Croft said: "John was a very caring and considerate brother and uncle who was dearly loved and will be missed by all of his family."
