A man has been charged in connection with a stabbing in a former County Durham mining village.

A wounded 25-year-old man was found after police responded to a disturbance in Alnwick Street, Horden, on Saturday.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, where his condition is described as stable.

A man, also aged 25, will appear before Peterlee magistrates later, charged with section 18 wounding and two counts of assault.

He is also accused of possessing an offensive weapon.

The victim suffered a minor wound to his head and more serious injuries to his abdomen and one of his legs, said Durham Police.
