A VW Golf left the road and hit the pedestrians, both in their 20s, before smashing into a wall and catching fire. The second man received minor injuries.
The driver of the car then left the scene. Police have arrested a 20-year-old man and he is in custody at a north London police station.
Police are tracing the dead man's next-of-kin and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
Officers are asking anyone who saw the incident to contact them.
