Jonathan Lee Haynes, from Northamptonshire, was remanded in custody at Swindon Crown Court.
He is accused of committing a rape at the university in Treforest, Pontypridd, on Saturday, 26 September, 2009.
He faces further charges which relate to separate alleged sexual offences committed in the Wiltshire area.
South Wales Police said he would next appear at Swindon Crown Court on 27 August.
