A man suffered serious facial injuries in a fight near a Portsmouth pub.

The attack happened near the Ship Anson pub on The Hard at about 2300 BST on Sunday.

The injured man, aged 29, underwent surgery at the Queen Alexandra Hospital on what police said was a deep laceration to his face.

A 27-year-old Portsmouth man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He has been bailed until 4 August.

Det Con Paul Winsor from Portsmouth CID said: "I'd like to hear from a coach driver who may have witnessed the incident and who spoke to pub staff shortly after.

"It was a nice evening and there were also a number of people outside the pub who may have seen what happened."
