Mazey Day is the highlight of the week-long Golowan festival, featuring Penglaz, Penzance's obby oss (hobby horse) based on a horse's skull

Tens of thousands of people packed the streets of Penzance as the Mazey Day street party took over the town.

The event on Saturday marked the highlight of the week-long Golowan festival, now in its 36th year. This year's theme, Forever Flying High, celebrated everything from seabirds over Mounts Bay to future flight.

Opening the day, Penzance Mayor Andy Law thanked "staff, friends and the army of volunteers who work so hard to bring us this extraordinary event".

He added: "This isn't just a festival, this is the beating heart of Penzance. This brings the community together in joy and celebration; it's an expression of what unifies us, an expression of who we are, our community and our love for this place we live in."
