McDonald
McDonald’s has dropped prices for customers this summer following a temporary tax rule change introduced on June 25.
The Government announced plans in May to roll out a temporary reduction in VAT on children’s meals in restaurants and cafes, children’s theatre and cinematic tickets, and admission to an array of UK attractions to help families save money over the summer holidays. The VAT cut from 20% down to 5% came into effect on Thursday, June 25 and will remain at this discounted rate until Tuesday, September 1.

Dubbed the ‘Great British Summer Savings’ scheme, the tax cut aims to help families across the whole of the UK enjoy weekend treats, days out and day trips this summer at a more affordable price to ease the impact on the cost of living from the Iran war.
McDonald’s is among the businesses that have committed to pass on the VAT savings to customers, meaning children will be able to enjoy cheaper meals from now until the scheme ends on September 1.
According to MoneySavingExpert (MSE), the VAT reduction will reduce the cost of a children’s Happy Meal from £3.89 down to £2.99.
Rival fast food chain Burger King has also committed to pass on the savings, taking the price of a kid’s meal from £3.99 down to £3.49.
Elsewhere, KFC, Wetherspoon, Nando’s, Hungry Horse and Shepherd Neame pubs will also be passing on the savings. The VAT cut only applies to food that is eaten inside the restaurant, with takeaway orders excluded from the scheme.
Commenting on the scheme as it came into effect on June 25, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “I know the cost of living is a number one concern for families, and it can be even harder over the summer holidays when kids want to do things and money is tight.
“So we’re making it that bit easier for families to make memories together and enjoy the little treats - while giving a boost to businesses across the UK.
“This comes on top of support we’ve already put in place including freezing fuel duty, taking off £117 off energy bills, and freezing prescriptions and rail fares.
“We are able to do this because we have the right economic plan, resulting in the UK having the fastest growing economy in the G7.”
Admission tickets, for both children and adults, to a range of attractions, including amusement parks, fairs, museums, zoos, soft play centres, circuses, adventure parks, nature reserves, wildlife parks and observation attractions.
HM Treasury added that it will soon be launching a Great British Savings deal finder to help families discover summer offers from businesses in their area online.
