Meghan Markle could be about to make the mistake of her life… at least according to bookies. This week, Meghan and Prince Harry confirmed that they would be moving back to the UK after ditching the Royal Family back in 2020 to make a new life in the United States. Since then, their Hollywood dreams have been a flop, and they’re keen to come back into the royal fold.

Of course, since announcing the big move, bookies have been releasing wild odds that Meghan will do this or that – especially after rumours swirled that she has a “UK-based project” in the works. Whether that’s a reality TV appearance, relaunching her working royal career or even appearing in a British soap is still up for debate.

According to the latest betting from Ladbrokes, there is a 3/1 chance Meghan will become a working royal again before the end of 2027. Her odds of making an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show are at 20/1, while her odds of appearing on ITV reality show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! are currently at 80/1.

Meghan’s odds of joining either BBC EastEnders or ITV’s Coronation Street both sit at 100/1 – so a soap appearance is not completely off the table.

Quite frankly, though I’d find it endlessly entertaining to see the Duchess of Sussex heading into Walford or Weatherfield, it would destroy any ounce of credibility she has left. While I can definitely see Meghan making it on a Sky crime drama or even a BBC programme, stepping into the world of soaps would be a huge mistake.

If nothing else, it would paint her as being a copycat – yet again. King Charles made a cameo on EastEnders alongside Queen Camilla in June 2022, while Queen Elizabeth II visited the Coronation Street set and was even involved off-screen in a 1965 storyline that nearly diverted her car down the titular street.

With all the heat Meghan has taken for appearing on MasterChef after Charles did, or copying the likes of Martha Stewart with her Netflix lifestyle show, the last thing she needs is more accusations that she can’t carve a new path for herself.

What Meghan really needs is something to stand out from the rest of the royal crowd. While that’s a big ask, I really think the West End or a BBC documentary could be the way to go. Meghan, take heed.
