A mother-of-five has been stabbed to death, and three women have been charged with murder in the US. Police in Texas revealed in chilling detail that the mum suffered multiple stab injuries in broad daylight.

Local media named the woman as 32-year-old Caroline Peña. Two sisters and a friend of theirs have been charged with murder, according to the Del Rio Police Department. In a Facebook post, the force said officers were called to Val Verde Regional Medical Centre in Del Rio at about 2.10pm local time last Thursday (June 25).

Police said they were called to the medical centre to reports of a woman having arrived with multiple stab wounds after an attack at a busy road, Fox News reports.

Less than two hours later, Kitty Mia Diaz, 21 and Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, were arrested.

Their friend, Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, was detained by police soon after.

Zelina Ochoa, a woman said to be a childhood friend of Ms Peña’s, told KENS 5: "She was one of those people that she was born to be a mom. She really loved being a mom."

Christina Salina told the same outlet that she had a missed call from Ms Peña just before the alleged attack and found out what happened when she saw a photo of her injured friend on social media.

She said: "I feel like if I would have answered that call, honestly I would have been there with her. It wouldn’t have gotten like that."

Police said the severity of Ms Peña’s injuries meant she had to be taken to a hospital in San Antonio for emergency treatment.

The force said detectives were informed at 9pm local time that she had succumbed to her injuries and died.

US media reports that Ms Peña was stabbed in the back twice and once in the stomach.

Kyandra Renee Faz, Kitty Mia Diaz and Amaya Cookie Diaz were subsequently charged with murder and taken to a correctional facility where they remain, according to the police.
