Music performed by friends and former students of Josef Gingold from a concert in memory of the violinist and teacher given on Sunday at the Circle Theatre in Indianapolis: Violinist Juliette Kang performs "Kaddisch" by Maurice Ravel and violinist Jaime (JAY-mee) Laredo plays "Liebesleid" (LEE-bess-leyet) by Fritz Kreisler. The pianist in both performances is Zeyda Ruga Suzuki (ZAY-dah ROO- gah soo-ZOO-kee). We'll also hear a brief remembrance from Thomas Beczkiewicz (bess-KAY-vitch), executive director of Cathedral Arts of Indianapolis, who worked with Gingold to establish the Indianapolis International Violin Competition in 1982. Gingold died last January. He played for many years with the NBC and Detroit Symphonies and the Cleveland Orchestra, but he is best remembered as a teacher first in Cleveland and then, from 1960 to 1994, at Indiana University. He would have been 86 years old on October 28th. (WFYI, Indianapolis)
