New European budget airline will launch in December - flights from £16

A new European budget airline will launch in December with flights from £16 which include cabin baggage. Fly2Galicia will connect major European cities with northern Spain, including Brussels, Milan and Venice.

The airline will run 17 weekly departures to eight destinations from December 1, and it will review these flight paths next October, when more could be added if it is sucessful. The airline will be based at Santiago de Compostela’s Rosalía de Castro Airport in northwestern Spain. The airline was launched to improve air connectivity between Galicia and key destinations in Europe. However, there is not yet a flight path to the UK.

International connections include Munich and Prague, and there will also be domestic flights to Granada, Alicante and Zaragoza.

One way journeys will start from as little as €19 (£16), according to the Sun. Flights to Milan and Brussels will start from €39 (£33), while Munich, Prague and Venice will start from €49 (£42).

Plus, the ticket covers the cost of two pieces of hand luggage, including a personal item and an eight-kilo cabin bag, so you need not worry about cramming your belongings into a backpack.

This is thanks to the new EU hand-luggage rules, which means that ticket prices must include free overhead cabin baggage and have no hidden fees by 2027.

Fly2Galicia will reportedly be using an Airbus A320, which has space for between 150-190 passengers. A yet-to-be announced operator will run the first few flights, and Fly2Galicia will take over when the services are up and running.

In an Instagram announcement four days ago, the operator confirmed that flights are now on sale.
