A 16-year-old boy who fell through a school roof in Staffordshire remains in a critical condition.

Thomas Buckett was discovered with serious head injuries inside Clayton Hall Business and Language College, Newcastle-under-Lyme, on Sunday evening.

Doctors at University Hospital of North Staffordshire said the next 48 hours would be crucial.

A friend said people need to their keep fingers crossed and stay positive.

Kim Fieldhouse, 16, said he had gone to the scene when he saw paramedics at the school gates on Sunday.

He said Tom was an outgoing boy who is being missed by his friends.

"He is not a nasty person, he makes everyone smile," he said.

He added Stoke City FC defender Andy Wilkinson had to been to see Thomas and had brought him a signed shirt.

Thomas fell 15ft (4.5m) through a skylight. Fire crews had to open school gates and force their way into the building.
