Next stage of Avenham Park transformation due to start

The latest stage in the transformation of a Lancashire park is due to get under way in the next few days, the council has said.

Avenham Park, in Preston, is being restored to its former Victorian glory, as part of a £2.5m project.

Work on the Japanese garden is the latest stage in the overhaul. It is expected to last until the Autumn.

Trees will be removed, shrubs will be cleared and water features will be overhauled.

Fish have already been taken away and will return when the work is completed.

Councillor Anthony Gornall, of Preston City Council, said: "This work is all part of the ongoing, £2.5m renovation of Avenham and Miller parks.

"Restoring the Japanese Garden to its original design is a key part of the scheme, and will make a real improvement to the look and feel of the area."
