Nine people have been arrested after police in Cumbria and Lancashire began a joint operation to crack an illegal drugs ring.

Four men and two women, all aged between 21 and 51, were arrested at separate addresses in Preston.

Three men aged 25, 29 and 32, were arrested in Barrow and Kendal.

All arrests were made on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs on Tuesday night. An unknown amount of cash was also seized.

Det Insp Nick Coughlan, who is leading the Cumbrian side of the operation, said: "We seized a significant amount of cash and illegal drugs.

"This is a long running proactive operation and we will continue to target drugs - and all the misery that is associated with the trade - in our areas to make our streets safer."
