Two people have been killed and five others injured in a crash on the North Devon link road.

The accident, involving a Vauxhall Corsa and a Renault Scenic happened at about 1620 BST on Monday on the A361 at Moortown Cross.

A man and a woman in the Corsa died at the scene and helicopters airlifted five other casualties to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The road remained closed for investigation until the early hours.

An RAF rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor, Devon's two air ambulances, fire and rescue crews and land ambulances were involved in the major incident.

The condition of those hurt in the crash is not known, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police have appealed to anyone who saw the accident to contact them.
