‘One of Luke Evans
Luke Evans is easily one of the UK's best exports. The Welsh actor has dominated both stage and screen, with roles in movies such as The Hobbit, Clash of the Titans, and Fast & Furious 6. However, some of our favourite parts of his he's played have been on the small screen, and one of his best has to be as Detective Steve Wilkins in The Pembrokeshire Murders.
The Pembrokeshire Murders is based on a chilling true story about the serial killer John Cooper and his victims. If you've not seen it yet, then here is everything you need to know about it and why it should be top of your watch list.
The Pembrokeshire Murders is a gripping but chilling true-crime dramatisation about the murders by serial killer John Cooper.
Cooper was arrested and later found guilty for two sets of murders in Pembrokeshire, Wales - that of brother and sister Richard and Helen Thomas in 1985 and husband and wife Peter and Gwenda Dixon in 1989.
In a rather unique turn of events Cooper appeared on the ITV quiz show Bullseye in 1989 and footage of his appearance on the show was later used as evidence against him.
The TV show, which was released in 2021, brings to life a dramatisation of these events when Detective Superintendent Steve Wilkins decided to reopen two unsolved murder cases from the 1980s in 2006.
Evans plays the role of Wilkins and was highly praised for his performance, with The Guardian saying: "Evans is great as Wilkins, whose loneliness forms part of his drive, as is the case with almost all decent TV cops."
And of the show in general The Times said in 2021 when it was released it is a "smooth and accomplished piece of television."
Leading The Pembrokeshire Murders is of course Luke Evans playing Detective Wilkins, who is not actually Welsh in real life, but for the sake of the drama Evans presented the character as coming back home to Wales.
All three episodes of The Pembrokeshire Murders are available to watch on ITVX. Each episode is around 45 minutes long so you could binge all three in one evening or spread them out across the week.
