One of the many events this fall marking the 300th anniversary of the death of Henry Purcell was a concert last month at the University of Illinois by the Renaissance violin band called the King's Noyse. The program focused on theatre music from Purcell's time, including works by several of his contemporaries, among them Matthew Locke. We'll hear selections from Locke's 1674 instrumental music for "The Tempest"—not Shakespeare's play, but Thomas Shadwell's. (Krannert Center for the Performing Arts)
