OPENING OF LIQUID NATION BAR
Fresh on the scene is the communistic sounding “live music venue for the people”. Communism has its upsides: drinks are £2.50; there are two smoking terraces each with their own bar and live music and DJs every Thurs-Sat. More controversially, there are also big pictures in the windows of those involved in the economic crash, from Fred Goodwin to Gordon Brown. Best keep those City creds quiet. 161- 165 Ladbroke Grove, W10 6HJ. Tel: 020 8960 1702.

BRUNCH AT LE BOUCHON BRETON
Brunch goes French at this eccentric, high-brow Gallic restaurant in Spitalfields, known for its towering platters of shellfish. The menu is a delight, and not for the faint-hearted (or vegetarian). Salmon tartare, made at the table; veal kidneys with creamy mustard sauce on toasted brioche and sauteed wild mushrooms on toast, topped with poached eggs and hollandaise are the kind of thing you can expect. 8 Horner Square, E1 6EW, tel: 020 7377 1839.

AYRESHIRE CONCERT WITH THE LSO
Scottish violin star Nicola Benedetti joins forces with compatriot James MacMillan in a programme all about northern places. These range from the unnamed “dear place” remembered by Tchaikovsky to the Hebridean seascape of Mendelssohn’s overture, to evocative portraits of the island of Iona. With the LSO Chamber Orchestra (part of UBS Soundscapes). Tonight, tickets £7-£21. St Luke’s Church, 161 Old Street, EC1V 9NG, book at lso.co.uk.
