The Princess Royal wished troops "well for the challenges ahead"

A farewell parade in Germany has marked the departure of troops from the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) to their new base in Gloucester.

The event, at Munchengladbach, was attended by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, who wished the ARRC "well for the challenges ahead".

More than 2,000 troops from 15 nations, are relocating to the Imjin Barracks at Innsworth.

The former RAF station closed in 2008 as part of an MoD savings review.

Speaking at the parade, Lt General Sir Richard Shirreff said: "Today is all about saying goodbye and thank you to our German friends who have made us feel so at home here in Rheindahlen.

"I am quite clear that it is Germany, this area and this community that have laid the foundations for the success of the ARRC and shaped its ethos and esprit de corps."
