Construction work on a new primary school in Norfolk is set to begin within weeks after the project won planning permission.

The £5m building will be the new home of the Little Plumstead Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School.

It will occupy the site of the former Broadland Hospital and include seven classrooms, a library, hall and outdoor play area.

The school is due to open in September 2011.

Jo Quarterman, the chair of governors at Little Plumstead Primary School, said: "This is brilliant news for our school, its pupils and the local community.

"The new building will mean our pupils can benefit from wonderful new facilities and will have much greater space for outdoor play and learning."

Funding for the school came from the former Department for Children, Schools and Families and Norfolk County Council.
