Plans have been submitted for a £2m low carbon complex which could form part of an education and enterprise park in Cambridge.

The SmartLIFE Low Carbon Centre will teach skills needed for building such homes and could open in 2011.

Residents will be consulted this summer on plans for the multi-million pound park, to be called The Hive on King Hedges Road.

SmartLIFE is a venture between the council and Cambridge Regional College.

The council's SmartLIFE Director, David Arkell, said: "What will make The Hive really different to other business parks is that its major focus will be on business that's good for both society and the environment."
