Plans for a new £20m school building have been submitted to Peterborough City Council in Cambridgeshire.

Construction firm Kier hopes to build new premises for the Ormiston Bushfield Academy on its current site in Ortongate.

The plans will be checked by planning officers before being considered by the council's planning and environmental protection committee.

Work on the new building will begin in autumn if the plans are approved.

Ormiston Bushfield Academy currently has 700 pupils but the new building will be able to accommodate 950 students.

Councillor John Holdich, cabinet member for education, skills and university, said: "This is an exciting milestone for the future of secondary education and for regeneration in the south of Peterborough."
