Hospital staff have appealed for the mother of a newborn boy found abandoned outside a pub in a Derbyshire village to come forward.

The 6lb 3oz (2.7kg) boy was discovered by staff on Wednesday night in a bag left in the porch of the Hawk and Buckle on Main Street, Etwall.

He was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital where nurses named him Jack.

Staff said he was "doing well", but they were concerned for the medical wellbeing of his mother.

Emma Wilkinson-Brice, director of nursing at Derby Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "It's a fairly traumatic experience giving birth to a child in any event and given the circumstances, this is probably a very frightened lady, a very concerned lady, about her own health and perhaps the situation that she finds herself in.

"So we want to get her properly assessed and make sure she can get any care that she needs."
