Police appeal over shooting of three men in east London

Police have appealed for information after a 36-year-old man died and two other people were wounded in a shooting in east London.

Police believe the three men had attended the Sugar Lounge nightclub in Katherine Road, Newham, prior to the shooting on Saturday.

Officers were called to Katherine Road at 0620 BST following reports of a shooting.

No arrests have been made. Police are yet to release the name of the victim.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out at East Ham mortuary on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services found two men with gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene. One man was pronounced dead at the scene at about 0700 BST.

A third man later presented himself at an east London hospital, also suffering gunshot injuries.

The two surviving men, both believed to be in their mid-20s, remain in hospital with serious injures which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Det Insp Steve Horsley said: "I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the Sugar Lounge nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning.

"The information gathered so far suggests the three men were at this club prior to the incident and it is vital we piece together the events leading up to the shooting."

Operation Trident, which investigates crime within the capital's black community, is dealing with the case.
