A number of church break-ins across Northamptonshire are being linked, police have said.

Since about the middle of June, churches in Stanwick, Raunds, Higham Ferrers and Ringstead have been vandalised and, in some instances, have had money taken.

St Mary's in Higham Ferrers said it had been targeted on Sunday and would remain closed until Wednesday "for forensic inquiries and minor repairs following the damage caused".

Four Spires Benefice said St Mary's Church in Ringstead, which was broken into on 28 June, would also remain closed until repairs could be carried out.

St Mary's Church said the break-in was "sad"

Northamptonshire Police said: "We are linking all of these incidents and inquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible."

It said money was stolen from St Laurence's, Stanwick, sometime between 18:00 BST on 21 June and 11:20 on 22 June.

At Higham Ferrers, entry to the church was "forced through a door" between 12:00 and 17:30 on Sunday.

"A small amount of cash was stolen and food was also eaten," police added.

Sometime between 17:00 on 19 June and 09:30 on 20 June, a donation box was stolen from St Peter's Church, Raunds.

And at St Mary's Church, Ringstead, a window panel was smashed and a coin box with about £10 in it was stolen on 28 June, between 04:00 and 06:00.
