A motorcyclist who died after a crash in Shropshire is believed to be a 36-year-old man from North Wales.

He was involved in a collision with a car on the A495 near Ellesemere on Saturday night.

He was airlifted to Selly Hospital in Birmingham but pronounced dead soon after arrival, police said.

Two women in the car, the driver and her passenger, escaped injury. Police said it would be several days before the victim was formerly identified.

"The collision is still being investigated but it's believed the car, a silver MG, was being driven from the direction of Oswestry towards Ellesmere," a spokesman said.

"The motorcycle, a blue and white Yamaha R6, was travelling in the opposite direction towards Oswestry.

"The man is not expected to be formally identified for several days and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course."
