A man found shot dead in a south-east London street has been named by police.

Emergency services called to Howson Road in Lewisham just after 0200 BST on Sunday found Matthew Clement lying injured in the street.

The 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from Operation Trident, which investigates crime within the capital's black community, are dealing with the case.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Hutchison, who is leading the investigation, appealed for anyone with information about the killing to come forward.

"This murder took place in a quiet residential street in the early hours.

"We rely on the help of the community to find the perpetrators and get justice for Matthew and his family."
